Before you enrol.
We give every prospective participant clear information before enrolment, so you can decide whether a program is right for you based on your existing skills, knowledge and any specific needs.
- Program OutlineBefore you enrol you receive a Program Outline covering the program structure, delivery mode, attendance requirements, units of competency, schedule, and the skills and experience needed to complete the program.
- Welcome to Wisdom guideYour guide to learning with us sets out your rights and responsibilities, the support available, fees and refunds, privacy, the Unique Student Identifier, recognition of prior learning, how certificates are issued, and how complaints and assessment appeals are handled. You receive it before you enrol or pay any fee, and an online induction module in myWisdom, our learning platform (powered by aXcelerate), takes you through it when you start.
- Language, literacy and numeracyAs part of enrolment you complete a short language, literacy and numeracy assessment. If the result does not match the level recommended for the qualification, we create a learning and support plan with you so the right support is in place.
- Digital literacyPrograms are delivered to established professionals. Your organisation confirms that participants have the digital skills the program requires; where that cannot be confirmed, we arrange an alternative check.
- Disability and reasonable adjustmentDuring enrolment you are invited to tell us about any disability that may need assistive technology or reasonable adjustment. You and your facilitator then agree a learning and support plan.
- Suitability adviceBased on these checks we advise you whether the program is suitable, before you enrol. If you have not received your course outline, or want advice on whether a program is right for you, call us on (02) 6257 8588.
- Registration confirmationWe send a confirmation email after receiving your online registration.
Fees and refunds.
We provide details of the fees and charges for every learning and assessment program before registration. The price of a Wisdom Learning program includes all administration fees, materials and any other charges. You are not required to pay additional fees, unless additional support is needed to help you complete the program beyond the scheduled delivery, which we agree with you first.
Payment terms and refund terms are set out in the Welcome to Wisdom guide and in your Program Outline, both provided before you enrol or pay any fee. Most of our programs are arranged by employers; where your organisation pays, the fee and refund terms are in the agreement with your organisation.
- Fees paid in advanceWe do not collect more than $1,500 in advance from an individual. For a qualification program costing more than $1,500, an initial payment of $1,500 is required before the program starts; choose the Tentative Enrolment option and we will contact you to arrange it.
- RefundsAustralian Apprentices are offered, on request, a refund of tuition fees paid up until two days after the first programmed workshop. Refunds requested by fee-for-service learners are reviewed and decided case by case. Contact our service team for further information.
- If we cannot deliver as plannedWe are committed to delivering your program. If delivery cannot occur as planned, we provide a suitable alternative program or learning approach to achieve the planned outcomes.
- After a program endsIf you are not yet competent and want to continue, we negotiate a pathway to completion with you, such as coaching sessions, further assessment or online activities. Additional charges may apply, and we tell you first.
Support services.
We aim to create a supportive, inclusive and adaptive learning environment where each participant can succeed. Support is available on request, at any point in your program.
- Welfare and guidanceHelp with personal, academic or logistical challenges during your program, including referral to health or advocacy services.
- Language, literacy and numeracySupport identified at enrolment and documented in a learning and support plan.
- Reasonable adjustmentFacilitators and assessors can adjust learning and assessment for specific requirements while maintaining the integrity of the assessment.
- Pausing or extendingIf you cannot complete on schedule, or are not yet competent, we work with you on a pathway to completion: one-to-one coaching, further assessment or online activities.
- Foundation skillsWe place emphasis on the foundation skills that support both workplace performance and lifelong learning.
- How to askSpeak to your facilitator, or contact our Canberra team at service@wisdomlearning.com.au or (02) 6257 8588.
Your rights and responsibilities.
What you can expect from us, and what we ask of you, from the Welcome to Wisdom guide.
- Your rightsTo be treated fairly and with respect; to learn in a safe, supportive environment free of discrimination and harassment; to receive detailed information about your program, assessment and appeal processes; to have your work assessed promptly with feedback; to appeal assessment results; to have your records kept private; and to access support services.
- Your responsibilitiesTo treat other participants and our staff fairly and with respect; to behave safely and follow the safety standards of the venue; to participate and complete assessment tasks by the agreed date; and to submit only your own work, with sources referenced.
- If responsibilities are not metYou may be asked to change your behaviour, required to leave a session, or excluded from the program, and your employer may be notified for employer-funded programs. Deliberate plagiarism is serious misconduct and may lead to resubmission, review or cancellation of enrolment.
Feedback and complaints.
We want to hear when something has not met your expectations, whether it is within our control or not. Our complaints process follows the National Code of Good Practice for Responding to Complaints about Vocational Education and Training Quality, and is fair, accessible, visible, comprehensive, responsive, accountable and constructive.
- Raise it earlyWhere possible, raise the issue with your facilitator or our team first; most concerns are resolved informally.
- Lodge a formal complaintIf you are not satisfied with the response, put your complaint in writing to the Chief Executive Officer, Jana Clyde, at jana@wisdomlearning.com.au. Include the outcome or resolution you are seeking. You can complain about Wisdom Learning, any partner organisation, or any person we employ or engage, and you can ask a team member to help you do so.
- What happens nextWe acknowledge your complaint in writing within two days of receipt and give our written response within two weeks. During that time you are given the opportunity to speak with an appropriate member of staff, usually an executive, about your complaint. Every genuine complaint is taken seriously and investigated impartially, and both sides are heard before a decision is made.
- OutcomeWe tell you the outcome and the reasons in writing, act on any substantiated complaint, and record it in our complaints register so we can learn from it.
- If you are not satisfiedTell us in writing and we engage an independent party to mediate a resolution, arranged within two weeks of your notification. You may also contact the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the national VET regulator, on 1300 701 801 or through its online complaint form, or the National Training Complaints Hotline on 13 38 73 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm). Complaints can also be sent to skills@act.gov.au.
Issues of a legal or criminal nature are reported to the appropriate authorities.
Assessment appeals.
If you believe an assessment decision is wrong or unfair, you can appeal it. The same applies to other decisions by Wisdom Learning or a partner that adversely affect you.
- Talk to your assessor firstAsk for the assessment decision to be explained. Many concerns are resolved at this point.
- Lodge an appealNote your appeal in the feedback section of the assessment feedback sheet you are asked to sign, or write to service@wisdomlearning.com.au. Your right to appeal is explained by your assessor before each assessment and documented in your course materials.
- Review and re-assessmentOur Chief Executive Officer, or an independent Wisdom Learning assessor, reviews the assessment, contacts you, and arranges a re-assessment with a different Wisdom Learning assessor.
- Second appealIf you wish to appeal the re-assessment decision, note it on the feedback sheet again. The Chief Executive Officer or an independent Wisdom Learning assessor reviews the re-assessment and contacts you. On request, a re-assessment by an independent assessor from outside Wisdom Learning is arranged at no cost to you.
- External avenuesThe relevant industry skills body or the Australian Skills Quality Authority may be contacted to help resolve the issue. If you remain dissatisfied, you can progress the matter through the complaints process above.
Unique Student Identifier.
Everyone undertaking nationally recognised training with a registered training organisation needs a Unique Student Identifier (USI), a ten-character code that gives you an online record of all your nationally recognised training. A USI is not compulsory at enrolment, but it must be provided before a qualification or statement of attainment can be issued. Create one at usi.gov.au; it takes a few minutes and you need a form of identification such as a driver licence. Some exemptions apply; see usi.gov.au for details.
Recognition of prior learning and credit transfer.
We encourage recognition of prior learning (RPL), and it is available to all participants. RPL recognises the skills and knowledge you can currently demonstrate, from work, life experience or formal study, so you do not have to undertake those components of the program. It is an assessment of your evidence against the units of competency, not an automatic conversion of experience into a qualification. Units and qualifications completed with any other registered training organisation in Australia are recognised as credit transfer, with no further training or assessment for those units.
- Check the course outlineIdentify the units of competency you want recognised.
- Talk to usA short discussion of the process and your experience or study, to guide you through the requirements.
- ApplyComplete the Wisdom Learning RPL application form.
- BriefingA session with an assessor on the evidence you need for the units applied for.
- Evidence and assessmentSupply your evidence and complete any additional assessment activities. Your evidence is assessed against the units of competency and you receive the decision and feedback.
- ResultRPL or credit transfer is granted in your program, or a statement of attainment or qualification is issued. You can appeal the decision like any other assessment.
Certificates.
We issue electronic certificates by default; a printed certificate can be requested. A statement of attainment is issued for units of competency that do not make up a full qualification, and a qualification testamur when all requirements of the qualification have been met. If you lose a certificate, we issue a replacement without an additional charge.
Privacy and keeping you informed.
We do not disclose personal information about participants to any unauthorised third party. Under the National VET Regulator (Data Provision Requirements) Instrument 2020 we are required to collect personal information about you and disclose it to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), and it may be used for statistical, administrative, regulatory and research purposes, including by Commonwealth, state and territory agencies. If your employer funds your program, we may provide your employer with information about your enrolment and progress. Your enrolment and training records are held securely in myWisdom, our student management and learning platform (powered by aXcelerate). Our privacy policy is linked from the foot of every page.
If anything changes that affects your program, including changes to a qualification or to how we operate, we tell you as soon as practicable, through the learning platform, email, text or your facilitator.
