Responding to audits, reviews and new obligations

Responding to ANAO findings, reviews and new obligations.

Capability treated, assessed and reported to your committee or regulator.

When an ANAO report, internal audit, regulator, inquiry or public scrutiny exposes a workforce capability gap, Wisdom Learning (RTO 88062, Canberra) helps you treat the risk and build the evidence your audit and risk committee, regulator or minister will ask for, in confidence.

When capability becomes a risk.

Most organisations come to us at one of these moments. We help you treat the risk and show that you have.

  • An audit findingAn ANAO performance audit or internal audit recommends better training, capability or controls.
  • A new obligationNew legislation, powers or standards: the positive duty, new PSPF requirements such as foreign interference training, the SOCI Act, CPS 230 or new regulatory powers.
  • Public or political scrutinyA Senate estimates question, media report, inquiry or ministerial interest puts how your people work in the spotlight.
  • An incident or reviewAn integrity matter, security breach, workplace incident or independent review exposes a gap.

How we respond.

From the finding to evidence of what has changed.

  1. DiagnoseMap each finding or obligation to the roles, behaviours and decisions behind it, and confirm what capability is missing.
  2. DesignDesign a targeted treatment: training where it is the answer, alongside process, guidance and governance changes where they are needed.
  3. DeliverBuild capability role by role, with realistic scenarios and practice drawn from your environment.
  4. EvidenceAssess capability and evaluate change, so you hold evidence of capability, beyond attendance records.
  5. AssureReport to your audit and risk committee, regulator or executive, and re-test where risk remains.

Training alone rarely closes a finding. Treating capability, process and governance together gives your committee the evidence to consider closure.

What you receive.

Everything an audit committee or regulator needs to see that the capability finding has been treated, not just acknowledged.

  • Capability gap analysisEach finding or obligation traced to the roles and capability behind it.
  • Treatment planA practical plan you can put to your audit and risk committee.
  • Targeted programsRole-based training, workshops and exercises focused on the gap.
  • Assessment recordsEvidence of whether people can do what the treatment targeted, beyond attendance.
  • Evaluation reportWhat changed and how we know, ready for your committee or regulator.
  • Re-testFollow-up assessment or exercises to check whether the change has held.

Tailored programs are not nationally recognised training unless a qualification or unit code is shown. Nationally recognised units and qualifications, delivered and assessed by Wisdom Learning Pty Ltd, RTO 88062, are available where formal recognition supports the treatment.

Recent work.

Examples of findings we have helped agencies close, each labelled by how we know the result.

New regulatory powers, tested before use

A Commonwealth regulator given new investigation powers needed confidence its officers could use them consistently and lawfully. Officers used the new powers, tools and templates in a simulated inspection before live use, and the exercise generated recommendations to refine tools and workflows.

Evidence labelled by strength

Case studies on our Impact page are labelled with the strength of their evidence, from self-reported change to demonstrated capability, so your committee can see exactly what was shown and how.

Questions about responding to findings.

Short answers to the questions organisations ask us about this work. If yours is not here, ask us.

What should an agency do when an ANAO recommendation involves training?

Trace the recommendation to the roles, decisions and capability behind it. Treat it alongside any process, guidance or governance changes. Then assess and evaluate the change, so your audit and risk committee sees evidence of capability, not only attendance records.

Can training close an audit recommendation?

Sometimes, but training alone rarely closes a finding. We trace each recommendation to the capability behind it, treat it alongside any process, guidance or governance changes, and give you assessment and evaluation evidence to support closure.

How quickly can you respond to an audit finding or new obligation?

We can usually begin a diagnosis quickly and agree a treatment plan that fits your reporting timeframe. Contact us and we will respond within one business day.

What evidence will we have at the end?

A capability gap analysis linked to the finding, delivery and assessment records, and an evaluation report showing what changed, what did not, and how we know, suitable for an audit and risk committee or regulator.

Do you work with ANAO and internal audit findings?

Yes. We work with organisations responding to ANAO performance audits, internal audits, regulator findings, inquiries and independent reviews. We work for your organisation, not the auditor.

How do we engage Wisdom Learning?
